SALT LAKE CITY (March 14, 2024) – Today, the Utah Jazz, in collaboration with Cozy Earth, announced the opening of enhanced Mother’s Rooms within Delta Center. The six, separate private rooms are now open and accessible to guests at all arena events.

“We strive to provide world-class experiences to every individual that joins us for an event at Delta Center,” said Andrea Williams, chief experience officer. “This collaboration with Cozy Earth allowed us to successfully elevate our Mother’s Rooms to create a sanctuary that prioritizes both comfort and safety. Each room has been carefully designed to the unique needs of families and helps us ensure everyone feels welcomed and supported during their time at Delta Center.”

Updates to the Mother’s Rooms come as a direct response to heightened usage. Designed to meet the growing needs of mothers and infants attending Utah Jazz games, concerts, and other public events at Delta Center, the six lounges are located on the main concourse near door 1 and door 7 and on level 5 next to the Sensory Room. Each room is equipped with modern amenities, featuring newly upgraded seating areas, TVs, sinks, and full-length mirrors, as well as Cozy Earth products that elevate the space and provide mothers with a better experience.

Utah Jazz and Ken Garff to Host Fun-Filled Day of Activities for Turn Community Services Programs on March 14

SALT LAKE CITY (March 14, 2024) – Today the Utah Jazz and Ken Garff Automotive Group are teaming up with Turn Community Services to host a fun-filled day at Delta Center for adults from five disability day programs across Utah County.

Media are invited to join over 100 participants from Turn Community Services between 11 A.M. and 2 P.M. in the arena bowl for a day of activities that will cater to the diverse needs and interests of the attendees. Media interested in covering this event should enter Delta Center through security at door 5 at 11 A.M.

Participants will enjoy three engaging activities including a crafting station where they can decorate water bottles and make friendship bracelets, a dance party alongside Zyia Active Jazz Dancers, and a basketball clinic focused on sharpening skills and friendly competition.

Today, Cigarettes After Sex announce their new LP, titled X’s (due 7/12), alongside their upcoming world tour, which features shows at some of the globe’s most iconic venues, like Madison Square Garden and London’s O2, with more Asia, South America and Middle East shows to be announced at a later date.

Filled with raw, imagistic, sometimes smutty vignettes set to entrancing, slowburn pop songs, bandleader Greg Gonzalez captures every emotion a romantic arc inspires. But where previous albums have drawn from an amalgam of relationships, for the most part, X’s centralizes on just one relationship that spanned four years.

“The record feels brutal,” admits Gonzalez. “I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn’t scratch the surface. I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyze and learn from it. Or just relive it—in a good way. I don’t have that Eternal Sunshine-thing of wanting to forget.”

While continuing to observe classic pop song structures, Gonzalez has moved away from the prior sonic touchstones of the ‘50s and ‘60s, finding himself now drawn to a ‘70s/’80s slow dance. While (in typical Cigarettes style) these changes may be subtle, the overall resulting energy is akin to disco ball-refracted tears on the dance floor.

Today also marks the release of the record’s first single, “Tejano Blue”, a nod to the music of bandleader Greg Gonzalez’s Texas childhood, resulting in the most instantly memorable version (and liveliest tempo) yet of the band’s signature sensual, timeless, love songs.

Gonzalez explains: “I grew up in El Paso & Tejano music is huge there. You could go to a lot of the bars in the city & hear artists like Selena, Los Ángeles Azules & La Mafia playing over the speakers. It was in the atmosphere around me back then, but I always rejected it & gravitated towards anything else I was attracted to really.

“Years later when I was living in New York City I finally started listening to Selena’s ‘Como La Flor’ at the same time that I was also listening to a lot of Cocteau Twins. I had the idea then to try to combine both of their sounds somehow, which felt a bit strange, but also felt like it was coming from a genuine place of rediscovering & finally connecting with the music that I heard around me in my youth.”

“Tejano Blue” is available today via All DSPs, and Cigarettes After Sex’s new LP, X’s, is out July 12th via Partisan Records.

X’s Biography

Ten years ago Greg Gonzalez was having a really rough Valentine’s Day. Freshly heartbroken with no hope of reconciliation, he spent two hours driving from his hometown El Paso to play a show, and he listened to Sade’s “By Your Side” on repeat both ways. “The experience that day stuck in my bones—it was an idea that I couldn’t forget,” says Gonzalez, the frontman of Cigarettes After Sex. “I thought, how do I make a record that feels like that?”

With each record—the initial 2012 EP, 2017’s eponymous debut album, and 2019’s Cry— Gonzalez has been faithful to his muse: love. In raw, imagistic, sometimes smutty vignettes set to entrancing, slowburn pop songs, Gonzalez captures every emotion a romantic arc inspires. But where previous albums have drawn from an amalgam of relationships, for the most part, their third, eagerly anticipated LP, X’s, centralizes on just one relationship that spanned four years.

“The record feels brutal, honestly,” admits Gonzalez. “I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn’t scratch the surface. I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyze and learn from it. Or just relive it—in a good way. I don’t have that Eternal Sunshine-thing of wanting to forget.”

For Gonzalez, preservation, catharsis, and deep self-reflection are absolutely essential to his process and his art. “It was such an intense experience and really beautiful while it lasted,” explains Gonzalez. “It’s about romance, but it’s also about who I was in that moment. How did I navigate these situations? What did I do? That’s the painful thing: you’re seeing yourself back then.”

This period was one of immense personal growth for Gonzalez, but it was also during these years that Cigarettes After Sex would hit staggering new levels in their career. The build has certainly been cumulative, beginning slowly with the virality around their earliest music and accelerated by a ceaseless tour ethic that has carried them all over the world, from Chile to Egypt to Indonesia and everywhere in between.

But something else happened in the worldwide pandemic pause. Cry came out at the tail-end of 2019 and wasn’t really toured until two years later, and in that gulf of time the band found themselves thrust into becoming more than simply a preeminent indie act, but as one of the most globally accomplished acts across any genre, ready to take center stage as superstars.

The proof is in the numbers: As of Feb 2024, their 23 million monthly Spotify listeners sits them squarely in the platform’s top 240 most-streamed artists. Their music has been used 6.4 billion times (and counting) on TikTok, holding five spots in the top 1% of all viral audio creations. In 2023 they sold over 200k tickets globally (without being in an album cycle).

This ongoing rise is made all the more remarkable when you consider the band remain shadowy figures, there are no CAS music videos and their artwork is forever in moody monochrome. But in the era of the cult of personality, perhaps it’s this ongoing adherence to aesthetic, the rejection of overexposure in favor of a little mystique, that’s created the space for fans to truly commune with their music, sharing it like an illicit secret.

And so we have X’s, another lean collection which, like previous Cigarettes After Sex records, is also characterized by the place these songs were recorded. There’s the El Paso college stairwell for the first EP, the Brooklyn rehearsal space for the first album, the courtyard in a house in Mallorca, Spain for Cry, and now the home at the foot of the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, where Gonzalez lived with his then-partner. While initial demos were captured live in August 2020, with longstanding bandmates Jacob Tomsky (drums) and Randall Miller (bass), the lion-share was recorded in a small bedroom, over the course of six live sessions from 2021 to 2022. With the addition of Jeff Kite on keys, the intimate spirit was the antithesis of a big studio vibe: the mood was relaxed and open and afterwards they’d hang out, listen to music, and drink wine.

While continuing to observe classic pop song structures, Gonzalez has moved away from the prior sonic touchstones of the 50s and 60s, finding himself now drawn to a 70s/80s slow dance. But in typical Cigarettes style, these influences are subtle—in the drums regimented to a click, in the beat and bop of “Baby Blue Movie,” and in the overall energy akin to disco ball-refracted tears on the dance floor.

And then there’s Gonzalez’s constant throughline: his deft use of reverb and space, and his soothing, androgynous vocals, which he laid down in the Spring/Summer of 2023, when the singer was still deep in his grief. Instead of waiting for the healing balm of perspective, Gonzalez pressed on the bruise and harnessed the hurt.

What began as a long distance love, wound up in a move from New York to downtown Los Angeles just before the pandemic hit. Two nesting in the surprising sweetness of isolation, watching a livestream of the ocean while helicopters whirred outside in the apocalyptic air. From the emotional rubble at the relationship’s end, Gonzalez looks back at that time nostalgically in “Dreams From Bunker Hill.” He captures the relationship’s insatiable early days in “Hideaway,” and in the dancey sway of “Holding You, Holding Me.” And then there’s the tender “Tejano Blue.” While the lyrics depict the delicious possibility of forever, the title and rhythm is a hat-tip to Gonzalez’s Texas roots surrounded by Tejano music. Back then he was listening to Portishead, Cocteau Twins, Ennio Morricone, and Leonard Cohen, but this song offers his retrospective appreciation of a genre that was formative, if not easily traceable.

On opening title track “X’s” Gonzalez unspools a story of joyful exploration and endless days between the sheets—a lyric mirrored by the reference to Bert Stern’s now-iconic photoshoot with Marilyn Monroe, taken six weeks before she passed. Stern’s 2500 photos captured the actress vulnerable, playful, nude, and often in bed; the contact sheets augmented with savage X’s Monroe herself inked on the images she disliked. While the track and album title take inspiration from these instinctive scrawls, musically the tune’s plush-yet-spare blueprint recalls the now-classic “Sweet”—a song director David Lynch said made him feel hopeful for the future.

Elsewhere “Dark Vacay” conflates hedonistic European tour memories—running round Prague, giddy and punch drunk—with more recent experiences unraveling in close quarters on the road with Gonzalez’s then-girlfriend. “I wish I could’ve gotten out of this really claustrophobic mentality, and been grateful for everything that was happening…” reflects Gonzalez. “It’s just the end of a romance and trying very hard to see the beauty of it.”

The poignant ten song collection comes to an apt close with “Ambien Slide” which sees Gonzalez tackle the pain of dissolution neither partner can soothe or absolve. With the Super 8, domestic bliss sweetness of Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski’s characters in Paris, Texas, or the frank clarity of a Richard Brautigan poem, X’s preserves moments in amber—the sensuality, the surrender, the abyss, and the ache when it’s all over. Gonzalez is here for it.

“I have to confront everything I went through, that’s just how I make peace,” confirms Gonzalez. “These are like photographs, and if I write a song then it’ll always be dear to me, and yes, it’s painful that it’s gone, but I’m just so fucking lucky I had that ever.”

Delta Center Extends Agreement to Host Frozen Fury with the Los Angeles Kings

The LA Kings return to Salt Lake City on Sept. 23 to host the Vegas Golden Knights for the 2024-25 NHL preseason

SALT LAKE CITY (February 12, 2024) – Today, Delta Center announced a multi-year extension of its agreement with the Los Angeles Kings to host the team’s Frozen Fury series – an NHL preseason game – in Utah. The next game will take place at 7 P.M. MT on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, when the Kings take on the Vegas Golden Knights at Delta Center.

Tickets for Frozen Fury will go on sale to the general public at DeltaCenter.com on Friday, Feb. 16. An event presale for LA Kings and Golden Knights fans and those who sign up in advance for the Delta Center newsletter will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 10 A.M. with code DELTA. Details regarding the game broadcast will be confirmed at a later date.

“We have an incredible partnership with the Kings and look forward to welcoming this exciting NHL preseason series back to Utah,” said Mark Powell, SVP of events at the Utah Jazz. “We continue to see strong demand for live hockey, and the games get more lively to watch. It’s well known how much Utah loves hockey, and we are proud to continue to bring this incredible experience to our community.”

The 2024 NHL preseason game will be the third consecutive LA Kings game at Delta Center and the sixth time overall the arena has hosted NHL hockey. Hockey first came to Delta Center in 2018 and 2019 when the Kings competed against the Vancouver Canucks in an event known as the “Salt Lake Shootout.” When the team returned to Salt Lake City in 2021, the preseason event was renamed “Frozen Fury” in a nod to an event series the LA Kings originally created to be played in Las Vegas beginning in 1997.

“The Kings have thoroughly enjoyed our relationship with Delta Center, and our annual preseason game in Salt Lake City is an event we look forward to each September,” said Luc Robitaille, LA Kings President and Hockey Hall of Famer. “Salt Lake City is a tremendous market for hockey. This new agreement helps us continue to bring NHL hockey to a beautiful area and to a fanbase very passionate about our sport.”

Frozen Fury is one of more than 300 events held at Delta Center annually as the venue continues to play a critical role in Utah’s ability to attract major sports and entertainment showcases. The event is sponsored by the Utah Sports Commission.

The arena is home to the Utah Jazz and select SLC Stars games – the G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz – as well as other sports, concerts, community events, and performances. In 2023, Delta Center hosted multiple sporting events that attracted a global audience including the 2023 NBA All Star in February, UFC 291 in July – the second UFC pay-per-view fight to take place at the arena in less than a year – and Frozen Fury in October when the Kings beat the San Jose Sharks in overtime.

This announcement comes as Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) – owners of Delta Center – continue to pursue bringing the NHL to Utah on a permanent basis through the expansion process.

Packed with explosive excitement, The Greatest Show On Earth begins and ends with a bang! Lauren Irving, Alex Stickels and Jan Damm join forces as Aria, Stix, and Nick Nack who are the soul, rhythm, and funny bone of the show and guide audiences through an interactive and music-filled journey filled with new, modern twists to classic circus acts.

The music-filled journey is bursting with catchy rhythms, beats, songs, and laughter that will have audiences clapping, tapping, singing, and laughing along. Never-Before-Seen Stunts

The Triangular Highwire, led by The Lopez Family, introduces a modern twist to a classic with three very thin wires connected in a triangular formation, creating the ultimate chandelier in the air 25 feet above the ground. Four performers take on incredible feats including jumping over their partner’s shoulders and riding a bike on the thin wire – all while another performer does a handstand on top of the moving bike! The Double Wheel of Destiny is even more extreme with four daredevil performers leap and somersault on top and across two spinning wheels that hang 30 feet in the air and move at incredibly high speeds.

Hilarious Comedic Performances

Delivering humor in a new, laugh-out-loud, unexpected way are Nick Nack and the Equivokee Trio. Together they introduce a modern take on clowning that leaves the makeup behind and focuses on delivering moments of laughter for Children of All Ages® through a comedic blend of juggling, acrobatics, dancing, and balancing skills.

The Ultimate Playground

The 360-degree stage is the ultimate playground with bright colors and designs that resemble a toy box that has come to life with something new to discover around each corner. The stage transforms into the ultimate skatepark as a combination of BMX bikes, a trial bike, and extreme unicycle soar through the air during a high-adrenaline extreme sports act with double-sided ramps and a one-of-a-kind trampoline that is a launching pad for tricks and flips.

Criss-Cross Trapeze

Nine trapeze artists take on the ultimate swing set as The Flying Caceres soar in every direction in an action-packed act nearly missing each other in the air by just seconds and inches. It is an incredible act of timing with several amazing performers going in every possible direction in sequence with each other. They also attempt a never-before-seen trick with performers completing two complete flips while flying from one bar to the next.

Record-Breaking Heights

Wheeling at incredible heights will be Wesley Williams, the One Wheel Wonder, a Guinness World Record-setting performer who takes on a daring new challenge as he attempts to set a new world record. He will ride ten different unicycles around the show floor – with the tallest at a shocking height of over 34 feet!

Aerial & Acrobatic Spectacle

Every seat at The Greatest Show On Earth has an impressive view when fans witness a combination of solo and group aerialists showcasing skills from straps and hoops all at the same time and some, in unison. Jumping, diving, and tumbling across the show floor, skilled acrobats performing hoop diving, Chinese poles, and jaw-dropping hand-to-hand skills will leave audiences in awe as they perform their inspiring acts. Closing the show with a bang is the Ringling Rocket, which will launch Skyler Miser across the entire arena at 65 miles per hour!

Dynamic Musical Performances

Audiences will dance along to big, exciting musical numbers incorporating original music, pop cover tunes, and live rock-inspired drumming to help shape the audience’s emotional journey throughout the show. Argendance, an energetic dance troupe from Argentina, presents a fiery fusion of Argentinian-style dance that creates rhythm and tempo alongside show guide Stix.
