Dan Roberts to retire after 45-year career with the Jazz, passing the mic to the second PA Announcer in franchise history
SALT LAKE CITY (January 2, 2025) – Today, the Utah Jazz launched a nationwide search for their next in-arena public address announcer, following the September 2024 announcement by Dan Roberts, who has served as the team’s PA announcer since they relocated to Salt Lake City in 1979, that he would be retiring following the 2024-25 NBA season. The team is seeking passionate and talented individuals to apply for the role, and applications are being accepted online now through February 2025.
The chosen PA announcer will step into the role as early as Salt Lake City Summer League in July 2025. They will take over all in-arena responsibilities for Utah Jazz home games and events beginning with the 2025-26 NBA season.
“This is one of the most exciting times in Utah sports history, and we are excited to welcome a new PA announcer talent who can continue to amplify the energy with great charisma and unite fans at every Jazz home game and event, while representing Utah’s passion for basketball and the Jazz” said Chris Barney, president of revenue and commercial strategy at Smith Entertainment Group. “This is a rare opportunity to become the next voice of the Utah Jazz, and we are excited to meet candidates who can help us continually elevate the in-arena game experience for Jazz fans at Delta Center.”
The PA announcer will be responsible for working all Utah Jazz home games, NBA Summer League events, and other special occasions hosted at Delta Center. This individual will play a pivotal role in the game-day experience, ensuring each event is engaging, professional, and creates lasting memories for fans and attendees.
Interested and qualified candidates are required to submit an audition video as part of their initial application. The process for selecting the next Utah Jazz PA announcer will be led by a panel of industry experts in broadcasting and game presentation, who will evaluate candidates based on their powerful voice, dynamic delivery, and the ability to forge a connection with fans. Following a thorough review of all submitted and valid applications, select applicants will be contacted by mid-March about next steps in the process, which include a comprehensive evaluation process and virtual auditions, followed by live auditions and in-person interviews in the coming months.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications online. More details about the application process are available here.
